Benjamin Dionne was born and raised just north of Buckingham Québec in the small community of Mayo at Long Lake.
At the age of 17, Benjamin was diagnosed with Schizophrenia; a potentially debilitating mental illness that has the ability to interrupt and change lives forever. It did just that, but despite living through dark days, the diagnosis had a positive outcome. My perspective on life and living with mental illness directly affected the perspective of my photography. No two people in this life are the same, everyone is unique with their own story to tell. The same rings true in photography. No two photos will ever be identical and each has it’s own story to share. The perspective of the photo is due in whole to the perspective on life of the person capturing it. The perspective of the person viewing the photo can be effected too, by the perspective of the photograph taken from the perspective of the photographer.
My hope is too inspire thought and invite conversation through my photography with the want of changing peoples perspectives on themselves and the life that surrounds them.
